New “Wild Target” Boss Rotjaw

A big new addition coming to the game with Update 1.13 and the Tide of Shadows event is the first boss of the new “Wild Target” category.
The boss is located in a staked area outside of normal boss rooms and, as a Wild Target, has a slightly different locator system that you can use to track down the lizard.

Rotjaw is a very large alligator that carries around the remains of a failed trap and lurks in the water waiting for players.
Contrary to initial assumptions, Rotjaw will not move freely around the map.

Banishing Rotjaw is significantly faster than normal bosses, and you also only get one bounty item from him.

How exactly you can find Rottmaul (Rotjaw) and how you can best fight her can be found in our Rotjaw boss guide.

New weather condition: Thundershower

The new weather condition of update 1.13 and the Tide of Shadow event is called Thundershower. As the name suggests, it pours continuously when this condition is active.

This significantly affects factors such as visibility, soundscape, and audible range for various sounds.

There are several intensity levels of rain where the heavy rain also affects smaller fires and fire items, such as not triggering the alarm tripwire traps or pushing down the flare of the flare gun.
If you go into the fire as a hunter during the heavy rain, the beams will be scorched and slowly burn up, but you will no longer catch fire.

How do the pacts in the Tide of Shadows event work?

There are three pacts in the Tide of Shadows event, built around the hunter’s commitment to the pact and the pact tokens.

  • The Primal Pact – A hunter group that wants to hunt down Rotjaw and sees itself at the top of the food chain.
  • The Smuggler Pact – A group of smugglers who are primarily concerned with their own advantages and profits.
  • The Grounded Pact – A moderate group of hunters trying to understand what is happening in the bayou.

Pledge Marks

The mark mechanics are based on the last event and so you can have up to 4 marks per hunter with you.
However, you can get a maximum of 3 marks per game through the following actions:

  • Get the first 20 event points of the round – 1 Mark
  • Loote the first killed hunter – 1 Mark
  • Banish a boss target – 1 Mark

You can use these tokens to commit to a pact or to acquire skills.

How do I join/pledge a pact?

To join a pact you need to go to an event supply point.
These are marked on the map.

There you will find the shrines of the three pacts and you can sign up for one of them. This assignment is unique and final until you lose the hunter.

Pact & Event Skills

Unlike the last event, there will be no fixed pact skills, but you will be able to buy some skills with the pact tokens.

There will be a distinction between normal, permanent skills and temporary skills, the so-called “Burn Traits”.

As the name suggests, these skills burn, usually after their effect has been used up and are no longer available.

You can find the skills at event supply points as trait charms and redeem them for tokens.

In addition to this, there are general event skills that are not tied to pacts – more on that below:

The Primal Pact – Traits

  • Instinct – Permanent, Cost: 1 Pledge Mark
    • In the shadow view, you can see if there are enemy fighters in the immediate vicinity (75m). The position is not shown exactly.
  • Relentless – Burn Trait, Cost: 2 Pledge Marks
    • The fighter does not lose life bars when it is taken out, but the ability is then burned.

The Smuggler Pact – Traits

  • Mariner – Permanent, cost: 1 Pledge Mark
    • Life regeneration is greatly increased when in water. Life regeneration is also increased somewhat in heavy rain.
  • Gunrunner – Burn Trait, Cost: 2 Pledge Marks
    • Removes contraband status from main weapons, also gets 2 extra bullets from ammo boxes. Destroyed during extraction.

The Grounded Pact – Traits

  • Shadow – Permanent, Cost: 1 Pledge Mark
    • Monsters can’t see the hunter, but they can hear him. Bosses and wild targets are immune to the effect.
  • Remedy – Burn Trait, Cost: 2 Pledge Marks
    • When a hunter with dark vision interacts with an trait charm, the effect of a banish (heal & restore life bars) is triggered, then the ability burns.

Event Skills (all pacts)

  • Death Cheat – Burn Trait, Cost: 3 Pledge Marks
    • The hunter loses their equipment and missing life bars upon final death, but remains themselves, in the process the ability burns.
  • Signee – Permanent, Cost: 6 upgrade points
    • You get 10% more event points

LeMat Mark II UpperMat

A large caliber version of the LeMat, which shoots long ammunition and can load a shotgun shell at the same time. However, the weapon is quite large and thus occupies a medium slot.
Also, it cannot be used with the Fan ability.

Winfield 1893 Slate Riposte

Even though a melee attachment on a shotgun seems only very situationally useful, this fact may open up a tool slot that you can then occupy elsewhere.
Since it’s a riposte variant, there are two attacks – a strike, which takes out normal grunts with one hit, and a stab attack, which can be used against stronger targets like Armored or enemy fighters.

  • Ammo type: Shotgun shells / Slugs
  • Slot size: 3/3 – Large slot
  • Feature: Riposte variant, can be used effectively in close combat

Drilling

Probably the most interesting new weapon is the Drilling. Two gun barrels that fire medium ammo combined with a shotgun barrel underneath.

  • Ammo type: Medium ammo & shotgun shell / slugs
  • Slot size: 3/3 – Large slot
  • Feature: Three barrel gun

  • Ammo type: Medium ammo
  • Slot size: 1/3 – Small SLot
  • Feature: Fast reload
