The developers of PUBG Mobile have teamed up with movie star Will Smith and are currently working on Undawn, a free-to-play open-world survival shooter.

Unusual choice for a gaming debut
While Lightspeed Studios is best known for its involvement in the mobile version of PUBG Mobile, Will Smith has made rather negative headlines recently with his slap-in-the-face appearance.
Still, the actor is a superstar and his movies are popular and generate record sales.
The actor already had his own skin in Fortnite, but apart from that he hasn’t had any appearances in gaming. Other actors of the same caliber star in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 (Keanu Reeves) or Call of Duty (Kevin Spacey, Kit Harrington), but Smith has opted for a mobile-focused Free2Play survival shooter.

What do we know about Undawn?
As already indicated, Undawn will be a free-to-play open-world survival shooter, which will be playable on both mobile devices and Steam.
The title was previously called Dawn Awakening and has been in development for at least four years.
On the official Steam page, the game is described like this:
Explore, adapt, and survive in Undawn, a free-to-play open-world survival RPG for mobile and PC developed by LightSpeed Studios and published by Level Infinite. Embark on an adventure with other survivors four years after a worldwide disaster where hordes of infected roam a shattered world.
Undawn combines PvP and PvE modes as players fend off dual threats of the infected and other humans as they fight to survive in this apocalyptic wasteland.
The main aspects of the game, according to the site, are monsters and zombies, basebuilding and vehicles.
So far so generic, if we’re honest.
As usual for a mobile game, we can probably also expect quite aggressive monetization and a UI that is mainly geared towards mobile users.
In this world, Will Smith plays the survivor Trey Jones, who is clearly based on Smith’s character Robert Neville from the movie “I am Legend”.
We will soon be able to find out how big his role in the game will finally be.
Undawn will be released on Google Playstore, Apple App Store and Steam on June 15, 2023.
