More Information

Siege weapons

There are a total of four new siege weapons that have found their way into the world of Rust with the primitive update: Catapult, Siege Tower, Battering Ram and Ballista.

All siege weapons can be researched from a level 2 workbench.
In addition, all siege weapons can be drawn by horses.

To build siege weapons, you first build the foundation and then hit it with your hammer to gradually build the rest.

Catapult

The catapult is probably the best-known siege weapon, with which you can fire four different types of ammunition at your target:

  • Scattershot: Several rocks that hit an area
  • Firebomb: Ignites on impact and spreads fire
  • Propane bomb: Highly explosive, causes damage to buildings
  • Player: If you are brave enough, you can also shoot players with the catapult

The fire and propane bombs can also be used as a kind of primitive C4 by stacking them in the desired location and then detonating them with the damage they cause.
However, the damage is then less than if you shoot them.

Siege tower

The siege tower is the new way to gain access to walled areas.

Either with a horse or with muscle power, it is brought into position and then used to attack. Each level is three construction floors high and has its own drawbridge that you can lower.
You can also secure the tower at the bottom with a door to provide more protection during the raid.

Battering ram

The battering ram is a vehicle that is powered by fuel and can be driven. The reinforced excavator arm inside the structure can be used to destroy structures made of wood and stone.
However, each attack also causes damage to the battering ram itself and you will need high quality metal to repair it.

Ballista

The ballista is basically a giant crossbow that shoots large projectiles at a distance.
There are also four different types of ammunition here:

  • Pitchfork bolt: Spikes enemies
  • Armor-piercing bolt: Punctures armored vehicles
  • Hammerhead bolt: Causes damage to doors
  • Incendiary Bolt: Ignites on impact

In addition to the version that can be pulled by a horse during a siege, there is also a stationary version that can be used as a basic defense.

Shields

Shields are a new piece of equipment that can be equipped in the backpack slot. As soon as you use a melee weapon that is compatible, you will automatically pick up the shield when you select it.
As soon as you use the shield, you no longer have a heavy blow, but raise your shield to protect yourself with the alternative attack.
If you hold the shield up, you cannot sprint and your vision is limited.

You can hold the shield up for up to 4 seconds, as indicated by a small progress bar similar to that of the composite bow.

There are three shield variants – wood, reinforced wood and metal. Depending on the type of shield, more damage from an attack is absorbed and the rest is transferred to the player.
Each shield also has its own durability, which is displayed above your life bar.

4-Shot Mini Crossbow

With Primitive Mode removing many weapons from Rust, the new mini-crossbow adds a bit more variety and gives you another option for a projectile weapon.

You can fire up to four shots relatively quickly before you have to reload. However, the weapon is not as powerful as the normal crossbow and does not have the same range, but can be used with the shield.

Horse Overhaul

With the primitive update, horses are given greater significance and have also received a general overhaul as part of this.

  • Horses should now be able to run over pretty much any terrain and in any monument
  • When galloping, you can use the CTRL key to force a hard brake, for example when riding towards a precipice.
  • You can also use this braking to make sharp turns and avoid pursuers
  • Horses can now swim, automatically avoid trees and can be led.

Ragdoll changes

There are new features for the ragdoll of player characters, i.e. how your character reacts to acceleration.

If you have an accident with a horse or motorcycle and take a certain level of damage, you can be thrown out of your seat and catapulted forward.

Collision damage has also been slightly adjusted for all bikes and motorcycles.

Integration of social systems

In future, you will no longer need a Steam overlay or similar to chat with your friends in the game, invite them or add new ones.

In future, all of this will be possible from within the game via a social screen.
Steam friends will be synchronized automatically and you can also invite your Discord friends into the game via a short login.

  • IO Reskinning: You can now customize IO elements with spray cans without having to mine them.
  • Phone names: The phone name can now be up to 30 characters long.
  • Pumpkin rolls: Dropped pumpkins no longer roll around endlessly.
