With the V2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” update, 7 Days to Die receives the biggest and most ambitious update in its history to date. The developers are fundamentally revamping the survival experience and delivering numerous new features, mechanics and improvements that will delight veterans and newcomers alike.

You can already test the update in the experimental version – the stable version for Steam and PlayStation is scheduled for release on June 30.

How to play the experimental version of V2.0 Storm’s Brewing

As the name suggests, this is an experimental build of a new version.
To test it, you need to go through the following steps:

  • Right-click on 7 Days to Die in Steam
  • Select the “Properties” item.
  • Then select the “BETAS” tab.
  • Then select the option “latest_experimental – Unstable build” from the dropdown
  • The game will now download version V2.0 of Storm’s Brewing Experimental and you can get started.

Important: Old savegames and old worlds from before update 2.0 will probably not be compatible, so be prepared for a restart and save your previous savegames before the update!

V2.0 Storm’s Brewing Release Notes

Biome hazard system: Survival becomes more challenging

The new biome hazard system ensures that players can no longer enter every biome without hesitation. As soon as you leave the safe forest biome, a timer starts that limits your survival time in dangerous biomes such as desert, snow, wasteland or burnt forest. Once the timer expires, there is the threat of continuous environmental damage – so survival fans need to plan cleverly and prepare well.

To extend your survival time, there are special biome smoothies that you can make from the resources of the respective biome. For permanent protection, however, you must master seven challenging tasks per biome to receive an immunity badge. Only then will you be immune to the deadly effects.

Revised loot system: More fairness and progression

V2.0 introduces loot stage caps for each biome for the first time. Only primitive loot is available in the forest, while high-quality items can only be found in advanced biomes such as snow or wasteland. This keeps the game progress exciting and rewarding.

Each biome also has its own resource focus: While you can find iron and medicinal plants in the forest, there is potassium nitrate and mushrooms in the burnt biome, slate and aloe in the desert, coal and blueberries in the snow and lead and rare radioactive mushrooms in the wasteland.

Dynamic weather system & deadly storms

Every biome – with the exception of the forest – now has unique, dangerous storms. These are announced by sirens and start a countdown. Those who do not find shelter will suffer massive damage. The storms are not only a real threat visually, but also in terms of gameplay and provide additional excitement.

New zombie types & enhanced AI

The update brings two new biome-exclusive zombies: the Plague Spitter in the desert, which spits swarms of insects, and the Frostclaw in the snow, which throws boulders and deals enormous damage. There are also the new Charged Blue Zombies (fast, robust, self-healing) and Infernal Orange Zombies (extremely resistant, high block damage).

Another big change: Zombies can now crawl through small openings. This makes base building and defense even more challenging and opens up new tactical possibilities.

Skill and perk system: More depth and specialization

All skill trees have been revised and now have a uniform structure with 10 perks per attribute and a mastery perk. New and improved perks such as Pack Mule (chance to absorb damage) or Hard Target (less damage when moving) provide more variety in character development.

Some perks, including Lucky Looter and Master Chef, have been moved to a new “General Perks” category and are now accessible to all playstyles.

Cosmetic transmog system

The new closet system allows you to customize the appearance of your armor regardless of its stats. Dismantle armor pieces to unlock their appearance for your character – perfect for those who value style.

World and graphics updates

The world of 7 Days to Die has been greatly improved visually and structurally. The Navezgane map has been given new roads, POIs and a more realistic layout of locations. Over 25 new questable and 150 non-questable POIs provide variety. New tree and vegetation models, SpeedTree shaders and detailed food assets increase immersion.

Multiplayer, crossplay & community features
The update brings full crossplay support between PC, PlayStation and Xbox (in certification), as well as comprehensive Discord integration. You can now chat with friends directly in-game and play together. New players spawn near their friends, making it easier to start your adventure together.

Quest and UI improvements

The quest system has been overhauled: New mechanical markers make objectives more clearly recognizable, different quest types get their own flags and in multiplayer, relevant quests are visible to everyone. Performance has been massively optimized so that a stable 60 FPS is possible even in intense situations.

Weapons, equipment & customization

The new “Sledge Saga” book series gives sledgehammers their own bonuses and abilities. Power attacks, XP boosts and armor penetration make the weapon more attractive than ever. There are also many new and reworked weapons to find and craft.

Customizable game options

For those who find the new mechanics too demanding, the biome hazard system and loot stage caps can be deactivated in the settings. The storm frequency can be flexibly adjusted from 0% to 500%.

Conclusion: The best 7 Days to Die ever?

With the V2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” update, 7 Days to Die finally takes itself to a new level. The mix of survival, strategy, action and role-playing is even more gripping, challenging and varied thanks to the new systems.
Whether solo or in multiplayer – the update offers exciting new features for all types of players and makes the zombie survival hit fit for the future.
