Just recently we reported about Greed is Good, a first competitor for the dungeon crawler Dark and Darker. Today we present Project Crawl – a game that is also preparing to fill the vacuum left by Ironmace survival dungeon crawler on Steam.
Dark and Darker with a little more polish
The similarities that Project Crawl has to the surprise hit from Ironmace are clearly recognizable.
Based on turns, you play as a warrior, rogue or archer in a dark dungeon, where you have to deal with monsters – so far you’ve mainly seen skeletons – and other players.
You’ll then have to gather as much loot as possible, survive and escape the map again.

Once extracted, you sell your loot to various merchants and trade your gold for supplies and better equipment.
Looking at the screenshots and teasers, much is reminiscent of Dark and Darker. The setting, the enemies, the inventory, actually everything looks like Dark and Darker.
However, you could even say that some elements are already a bit more mature and appealing, such as the merchants standing in front of you as a figure and the trading system itself.
In general, many things seem a bit more rounded and “finished”.

Who is developing Project Crawl?
With Project Crawl, too, many are naturally wondering who is behind the game. The developers and publishers from Mithril Studios say this about themselves:
We are a group of RPG enthusiasts who have always sought to create a unique experience that can keep us hooked for thousands of hours. We were deeply inspired by Tarkov’s innovative mechanics, immersive atmosphere, and pioneering gameplay loop. It was exactly the long-lasting and engaging gameplay we were looking for. Blending Tarkov’s essence with classic RPG elements seemed like a crazy yet incredibly thrilling idea, so without hesitation, we founded Mithril Studio to develop Project Crawl – an immersive extraction-based first-person dungeon crawler.
To the question of whether they would be affiliated with Nexon, Mithril Studios replied as follows:
We want to make it crystal clear—we have absolutely zero affiliation with Nexon
Similar to Greed is Good, there isn’t much information about Mithril Studio, but it seems to be the studio’s first game.
However, in contrast to the competition, the developers are very active on various channels and in the Project Crawl community discord.
After the current playtest, Project Crawl is supposed to enter Early Access on Steam as soon as possible.
It is not yet known when exactly that will be.
